which were very competitive with most teams finishing in the gold or silver division
during the season. The 2009 travel teams had a great experience: 17s went
to Las Vegas in Feb for a 3 day tournament and 16s went to Phoenix in July for
a 5 day tournament.
Ankle braces: To promote vigorous play and protect
from injury, we strongly encourage players to wear ankle braces. Read this

The girl's comp volleyball club
season runs from December through mid April for girls ages 9 to 18. There are
generally 2 practices and/or club games a week in the evenings and one large tournament
a month on Saturdays, January through April. Team tryouts occur in late November
or early December. These are low cost, minimal cut tryouts with a purpose to determine
skill level for tentative team placement. Comp Team levels include 18s, 16s, 14s,
and developmental teams are 13s and 12 & under. AVA also sponsors several
competitive travel teams each year to large out of state national tournaments.

The Alaska Volleyball Association (AVA) is a Junior Olympic and a nonprofit
organization for high school and junior high youth which resides in the Northeast
Anchorage and Mat-Su Borough, Alaska. It is the desire of the AVA to establish
a club that is a credit to its members, local educational institutions, coaches,
parents and the community. AVA provides high school and junior high youth with
the opportunity to develop volleyball skills and to play volleyball, with quality
coaching, in a learning environment that promotes self-discipline, good sportsmanship,
leadership, character development, and personal integrity. AVA was established
in 1990. Most if not all practices will be held
in the players' local area (Mat-Su Valley or Eagle River/Chugiak) to minimize
